Meeting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was something I never imagined would happen. I am just an ordinary business and IT professional, someone who has never been deeply involved in politics or connected with political figures. I’m not a journalist or part of any influential circle, so the thought of meeting our national icon felt distant and unattainable.
However, fate had its plans. I was appointed to solve a technical issue related to live streaming for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s office. My background in technology, combined with my understanding of lighting and DOP (Director of Photography) techniques, paved the way for me to step directly into her world. It was this unexpected blend of skills that brought me to Nay Pyi Taw, to the NLD Chairperson’s office, where my story took a remarkable turn.
My first meeting with DASSK was sudden and unplanned. I had just arrived at the office to set up and troubleshoot the live streaming equipment when, to my surprise, she walked in to observe what we were doing. The room shifted instantly—her presence was powerful yet calm. She requested her team to introduce us, then turned to me and asked for a test stream.
In that moment, my heart felt like it would leap out of my chest. Here she was: our national icon, our hero, the beloved leader who symbolizes the very spirit of democracy in Myanmar. It was a moment charged with both pride and disbelief. But DASSK’s demeanor was warm and unassuming; she broke the tension by asking about the technology we were using, her curiosity putting me at ease.
Standing there, representing my team as the leader, was an experience I will always hold close to my heart. I felt immense pride—not just for myself, but for the sacrifices my parents had made. They had supported my passion for technology even when it meant borrowing money at high interest rates so I could attend computer classes. Their belief in me was part of what led to that moment, where I found myself face-to-face with a figure of such national importance.
The first project I worked on for ChairNLD was a video of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi addressing the entire nation. It marked the beginning of a chapter in my life that continues to inspire me every day. That brief encounter was more than a meeting; it was a reminder of the power of resilience, learning, and unexpected opportunities.
And so, that is how my first meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi unfolded—unplanned, nerve-wracking, and unforgettable. It was a day that affirmed that even the most ordinary paths can lead to extraordinary moments.
